We are incredibly excited to be hosting the first public lands fly fishing tournament but we are even more excited about helping support public land access in the high country. A huge reason we are putting on this tournament is to bring awareness to quickly shrinking public lands and the history that is disappearing with them. All of the proceeds from this tournament are going toward local organizations who help promote and protect the rivers and streams in the Boone area. Our three main partners include Valle Crucis Community Park, Watagua River Keeper, and High Country Trout Unlimited.
The tournament will be comprised of 20 individual spots but teams of two are accepted. Cost is $75 per person (all proceeds will go toward local public land conservation efforts). The focus of this tournament is to expand the fly fishing community-it is open to every skill level and we will gladly make accommodations for any disabled or older anglers. To sign up go to our website www.duesouthoutfitters.com, and click the "shop" tab, then "purchase" the Due South Classic. Tournament information, rules, and confirmation will be emailed to you shortly after!
A little bit about the organizations we have chosen to support...
Valle Crucis Community Park
A nonprofit community park, funded by donations, that provides a great learning environment for fly fishing with easy river access. The park gets stocked five times a year giving people of all skill levels the opportunity to go out and catch fish. Being within twenty minutes of Boone, it's the perfect place for someone to wet a line either after work for a few hours or share the passion of fly fishing with the younger generation. https://vallecrucispark.org
Watagua River Keeper
Watagua River Keeper, a branch of MountainTrue, plays a huge part in water quality protection and monitoring in the high country. They strive to help educate individuals on how limit the human footprint and preserve the natural river ecosystems. https://mountaintrue.org/waters/watauga-riverkeeper/
High Country Trout Unlimited
Our local chapter of TU is actually ran by Meredith Sessoms, guide wife and part owner of Due South. Trout Unlimited has been able to make a big impact in the Boone area and is only growing. Helping to support TU will ensure education and protection of local waters for our future generation of anglers. https://www.tu.org/connect/groups/high-country-934
