Tournament Rules

We are officially one month away from the Due South Classic! We are beyond excited to be gearing up for the tournament and the 2018 season. A couple of quick reminders- registration is still open for the tournament (spots are filling up quickly so make sure to sign up ASAP), cost is $75/person ($150/team), price includes lunch and t-shirt, and all proceeds are going to  our public land conservation partners- Valle Crucis Community Park, Watagua River Keeper, and High Country Trout Unlimited. Listed below are the rules and regulations we have set for the tournament. Please feel free to call if you need any clarification or have other questions! 

 

General Rules

-This is a fly fishing only tournament
-Contestants must sign waiver prior to competition day
-All state rules/regulations apply in addition to Due South Classic rules
-Any unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated and will result in disqualification

-Severe weather conditions- Due South Outfitters Staff will determine if rivers are in “fishable” condition. If rivers are not “fishable”, tournament will be rescheduled at a later date. In case of an afternoon lighting storm, morning results will act as final results.

-Fishing hours will be set at tournament registration; lines are not allowed in the water prior to official starting time and must be removed immediately upon notification of end time, Anglers will be allowed two hours to fish assigned beat in morning and afternoon. Judges will keep official time.

-Fish must be released quickly and safely post catch. Dead fish/ fish unable to survive (as determined by judge) will result in loss of points

-Anglers must fish assigned beat, no private water fishing will be tolerated

-Beats will be on three sections of Delayed Harvest waters; Watauga River at the Valle Crucis Community Park, Watauga River at the Gorge Put In (Hwy 321), and New River at the Todd Island Park

 

 

Fish:

-No snags, above the plate only

-Trout species only-no bait fish/chubs

 

Equipment:

-Contestants will provide their own equipment

-single hook 

 

Flies:

-No scent products
-Streamers are allowed permitting they follow the single hook rule
-Anglers must choose 25 flies to fish with for duration of tournament, they must present their fly box to judge prior to fishing for approval, no fly refills at lunch/intermission

 

Categories/Standings:
-Team Overall, Team 2nd, Team 3rd
-Individual Overall, Individual 2nd, Individual 3rd

-Individual Biggest Fish

 

Itinerary:

Friday, March 9th

-6:00pm Anglers check in meeting at Due South Outfitters
Saturday, March 10th

-7:00am Meet at the shop to check licenses, go over rules & regulations, get any last minute supplies, and draw for beats
-7:45am Arrive at first beat, as soon as your line hits the water your 2 hour times starts
-11:30am Meet at Due South Outfitters for lunch, and to draw for second beat
-1:00pm  Arrive at second beat, as soon as your line hits the water your 2 hour times starts
-4:45pm Meet at the Due South shop for final tally, and prize giveaways
